Abortion Bans Do NOT Impact Maternal Mortality Rates

April 3, 2026—The Journal of American Medical Association has published a Report that concludes that abortion bans do not increase maternal mortality nationwide as a whole or state specifically. Data used was collected by the National Center for Health Statistics, a unit of the Center for Disease Control.

The Report concludes: "This cohort study found that abortion bans were not associated with statistically significant overall or state-specific increases in pregnancy-associated mortality."  

As more and more states have passed legislation banning abortion after certain cut-off thresholds, such as heartbeat detection or number of weeks in gestation, so called "Pro-Choice" organizations have increasingly claimed that these bans threaten the mortality and health of pregnant women. 

The Gender Equity Policy Institute has been at the forefront of these claims which have been touted extensively in an effort to sway public opinion and legislation away from bans of abortion. 

Now these claims have been refuted by credible research by medical doctors and other science professionals.

Hawley Bill Banning Chemical Abortion Drug Gains Momentum

March 25, 2026, WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) sent a letter to his Republican colleagues in the Senate, urging them to join his new legislation to ban the chemical abortion drug mifepristone and empower women harmed by the drug to sue its manufacturers. The outreach comes after Senator Hawley’s legislation gained 3 new cosponsors: Senators John Cornyn (R-Texas), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), and Ted Budd (R-N.C.). Companion legislation sponsored by Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger (TN-01) has also picked up multiple co-sponsors in the House.

Senator Hawley wrote, “I write regarding a grave threat to the health and safety of American women: the chemical abortion drug known as mifepristone. The evidence is now clear. Mifepristone is almost always fatal to the unborn child, but it is also significantly dangerous for women. The drug companies that make this drug know this, but continue to profit from the drug’s nearly unregulated distribution, largely insulated from liability. Congress can no longer ignore these dangers.” 

He continued, “At a recent event on Capitol Hill, I invited women who took mifepristone to share their experiences. These women were pressured or coerced into taking the drug, often with repeated assurances that the drug was safe, that they would be able to resume their normal lives in a matter of days. The reality was far different. One woman spent a month in a medically induced coma. Another described bleeding uncontrollably with no one to help. They still suffer from the trauma to this day. But no woman who has suffered from this drug has any meaningful option to recover from the two drug companies who make it, mislead about its effects—and profit from it to the tune of billions of dollars. That should change.”

Senator Hawley concluded, “I have introduced legislation to withdraw FDA approval of mifepristone for use in an abortion. My bill would also allow women harmed by mifepristone used for an abortion to sue the manufacturers for damages. Congress has the power—and the duty—to protect women from the dangers of chemical abortion and from the corporations who would exploit them. I hope that you will join me in this effort.”

This legislation, called the Safeguarding Women from Chemical Abortion Act, is supported by Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, Family Research Council, Alliance Defending Freedom, Concerned Women for America, Live Action, Students for Life of America, Ethics and Public Policy Center, AAPLOG Action, March for Life Action, National Right to Life, Priests for Life, Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, Thomas More Society, Missouri Right to Life, Choose Life of Missouri, and Reach Reproductive Health.

Time to View the Question of Life through a 21st Century Medical Science Lense

During Supreme Court deliberations over Roe v Wade in 1973, in considering whether the unborn child is a “person” under the Fourteenth Amendment, Justice Harry Blackmun began his imaginative opinion by going all the way back to the third century BC. He regaled readers with a history lesson about Aristotle, the Stoics of ancient Greece, the Persian Empire, the Middle Ages and Renaissance, and how the Catholic Church once believed the Aristotelian theory of “mediate animation” (i.e., that the male embryo acquires his soul after forty days, whereas the more complex female embryo must wait until the eightieth day).

Curiously, Blackmun saturated his opinion with twenty-seven references to the idea that “quickening,” the point at which a mother first perceives fetal movement, was long thought to be the moment when life begins. Never mind that medical science had discarded this notion as archaic long before the Fourteenth Amendment was ratified in 1868.

Modern medical science knows now that unborn babies exhibit sentience, the ability to feel pain, and the ability to learn as early as the first trimester.

ULTRASOUND SAVES BABIES

Pregnant women who view their child in utero by ultrasound are less likely to have an abortion and are more likely to experience a desired pregnancy and childbirth.


Studies repeatedly show that requiring an ultrasound to be administered to abortion-minded women results overwhelmingly in their choosing to carry to term.

·         One study conducted in a pregnancy resource center in the U.S. reported that women planning to abort their child were 2 - 3 1/2 times more likely to keep their children after viewing their ultrasounds.

·         A study conducted in Oregon concluded that women at high risk of having abortion who viewed ultrasounds were only 30 percent likely to continue with the procedure, as compared to the 75 percent of women who did not view ultrasounds.

·         One study reported that women at risk for abortion who viewed ultrasounds and received counseling were 60 percent more likely to choose life than those who had counseling without ultrasounds.

·         Eight in ten pregnancy resource centers report that "abortion-minded" women decide to keep their babies after seeing ultrasound images.

·         According to an executive director of an Iowa pregnancy resource center, 90 percent of women who see their baby by ultrasound choose life.

·         One pregnancy resource center director in Baton Rouge states that "Ninety-eight percent of women who have ultrasounds choose to carry to term."

A Heroine on Many Levels

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Pro-life actress, Patricia Neal, died at age 84 on Sunday. She had been suffering from lung cancer and was surrounded by her family at her home in Massachusetts. Neal is best known for her Oscar-winning portrayal of a housekeeper in the 1963 movie, Hud, with Paul Newman.
She is also very well known for her valiant recuperation from a series of strokes which she suffered while pregnant in 1965. She was in a coma for 21 days. The Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center, situated in Neal's hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee, is also award-winning for its care for people recovering from strokes and spinal cord and brain injuries.
The actress herself described her life as a Greek tragedy, in some measure. She had 5 children with her husband, Roald Dahl. The first, Olivia, died of measles at age seven. Another, Theo, was severely injured when his baby carriage was hit by a car. After thirty years of marriage and the survival from her strokes, Neal was divorced from Dahl after discovering his affair with a friend.
However, Neal said that her only regret in life was aborting a child when the actress was 21 years old.
Her lover (and co-star) Gary Cooper had persuaded her to have the abortion, as he was still married and had a daughter with his wife. That daughter, Maria Cooper, famously spat on Neal to show her displeasure that Neal had interfered with the marriage of the Coopers. However, later, the wife and daughter reconciled with Neal.
Maria Cooper is credited with helping Neal return to Catholicism. And, despite her hatred of the affair, Maria Cooper is said to have complained to Neal that the aborted child was the only sibling Maria Cooper would ever have and that she wished that the child had been given life.
Patricia Neal openly admired fellow actress Ingrid Bergman, who gave birth out of wedlock to a son by Roberto Rossellini, and was therefore denounced by the United States Senate. Neal said that Bergman had "guts" and that Neal wished that she had had the guts also to carry her baby to birth.
Joshua Mercer of Catholic Vote Action, noted Neal's death and her pro-life views in later life.
"Neal stood out against the grain of Hollywood by calling for the defense of unborn life. It was learned from her own mistakes," he said. "Neal appeared as a guest on The View and spoke gently about how abortion creates anguish and sorrow. She often said simply but powerfully: 'Don't make my mistake. Let your baby live.'"
"I had the chance to hear her speak about six or seven years ago and I can say without any hesitation that everyone in the room was moved by her testimony," Mercer continued.
Even the New York Times noted her abortion regrets in its obituary:
During her affair with Cooper, she became pregnant. She had an abortion and according to her 1988 autobiography, “As I Am,” (written with Richard DeNeut), she cried herself to sleep for 30 years afterward. “If I had only one thing to do over in my life,” she wrote, “I would have that baby.”

Massachusetts Offers "Choose Life" Tag

The Choose Life license plate in Massachusetts will be available at the Registry of Motor Vehicles at the end of June, 2010 for an additional $40.

Funds generated by Massachusetts' Choose Life specialty license plate will assist women with the expenses of a full term pregnancy-such as medical bills, temporary housing, transportation, utility bills, food, maternity clothing, and similar expenses of infants. Funds will be distributed to qualified not-for-profit agencies within Massachusetts that do not counsel in or refer for abortion.

The Spirit of Christmas is LOVE

Snowflake Babies

Snowflake Babies are babies and children who were fertilized in vitro and then cryo-preserved, or "frozen," as embryos for storage until they were allowed to be implanted in a mother and then born, often through embryo adoption. There are now 134 such children living, the first being Hannah, born in 1998.
